ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management Systems Certification

ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Certification

ISO 45001 is an international standard for occupational health and safety management, the highest level of accredited international certification.

Our expert team can help you through every step of the ISO 45001 certification process, through gaining a deep understanding of your business and its context.

Overview

The ISO 45001 OH&S management system standard provides requirements for an effective occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system. This system will help to reduce injuries and accidents in your workplace, as well as continually improve the OH&S performance of your business. ISO 45001 was published by ISO to replace the commonly used OHSAS 18001 standard.

OHSAS 18001 has been withdrawn and replaced by ISO 45001. Organisations currently certified to OHSAS 18001 will need to migrate to ISO45001 by March 2021 to retain certification recognition. If your business holds OHSAS 18001 certification, you will need to update to this new ISO 45001 standard or lose your active “Certified Company” status.

The ISO 45001 international standard suits businesses of all types and sizes and can easily integrate with an existing management system.

Benefits of ISO 45001

ISO 45001 certification provides a holistic approach to health and safety, making employee wellness and wellbeing a critical element of the system. As an ISO 45001 certified business, you will be able to:

  • Proactively identify and address potential hazards in your workplace – making it safer for employees, contractors and other workers
  • Minimise the risk of accidents and incidents as a result of the continual analysis and improvement of the OH&S management system
  • Reduce costs of accidents and incidents in the workplace
  • Reduce employee turnover and absence

Understanding the difference between OHSAS 18001 & ISO 45001

ISO 45001 is the international standard. If you are OHSAS 18001 certified your business will need to migrate to the new standard as the previous standard will be withdrawn.

OHSAS 18001 was originally a standard developed by certification bodies in Britain and was used worldwide.

OHSAS 18001 was a procedure based standard, whilst ISO 45001 is process based and considers risks and opportunities (in common with the other major ISO standards). ISO 45001 is a far more holistic approach to safety in the workplace, taking into consideration internal and external risks and opportunities, whereas OHSAS 18001 primarily focused on internal risks.
